Aurial Padel

Twelve indoor courts on Bajkalská, badged as the national padel centre, and comfortably the most serious facility in the Slovak capital. For a country this size it is a statement.

The hall echoes. Twelve courts under one roof with hard surfaces and nothing to absorb the noise, so ball on glass carries the length of the building and a conversation becomes work.

The food is the best I have found at a padel club anywhere, and the shop is the biggest and best stocked, rackets and bags and shoes and apparel. Both are excellent and both sit apart from the courts, in their own rooms behind glass, so the courts end up isolated from the two things that would make the place social.

There is no free parking either. It runs to a few euros an hour on the street nearby, which for a facility on this scale is a strange thing to leave out.

The welcome was the weak point. Nobody greeted me on the way in and nobody said anything on the way out. Everything here is built well, and none of it is especially warm.
